Hong Kong Hotel Energy Audit

Hotel energy audit services

In order to further improve the energy efficiency of buildings in Hong Kong, the government proposed the following amendments to the Building Energy Efficiency Ordinance in November 2023 to include the Hong Kong hotel industry (including guesthouses) within the scope of the energy efficiency design standards by 2024 Data from 2018 shows that there are 1,890 licensed hotels and guesthouses in Hong Kong, providing a total of more than 90,000 accommodation rooms.

Hotel energy consumption

The electricity consumption of Hong Kong hotels is very high. The main reason is that the hotels are large in size and have many facilities. Some of them even provide services 24 hours a day, so a large amount of electricity is needed to meet various needs such as lighting, air conditioning, and elevator equipment. According to data from the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Government, Hong Kong's hotel industry will consume approximately 1.5 billion kWh of electricity in 2022, accounting for approximately 5% of Hong Kong's total electricity consumption. In order to reduce electricity consumption, Hong Kong's hotel industry has actively implemented energy-saving measures in recent years, such as using LED light bulbs, installing smart thermostatic systems, and improving the thermal insulation performance of buildings.
